Scofi is one of Malaysia’s largest raw coffee bean suppliers, offering high-quality raw coffee beans for sale. Arabica and Robusta beans are Scofi’s most well-known raw coffee bean products. At Scofi, we are constantly working to educate the public on the differences between roasted and unroasted coffee beans, as well as the benefits and applications of unroasted coffee beans. Scofi, Malaysia’s leading coffee bean supplier, strives to share coffee bean knowledge in order for the public to enjoy our coffee beans by providing the highest quality Arabica and Robusta beans.

We started to import high quality Arabica coffee beans into the local market since year 2008. There was a growing trend where Coffee drinkers are more appreciative of the so-called “third wave” specialty coffee cultivated from renowned coffee farms all over the world. With our extensive networks of customers and suppliers, we are able to source premium quality coffee beans at significantly competitive prices. We are also keeping sufficient inventory in our cold room facility locally to maintain the freshness of our coffee beans. All in all, we at Soo Hup Seng are continuously improving ourselves to be your most trusted partner. We are proud to be there to participate in your growth story, during the good and bad times, like what we have been doing over the past half centuries.

During the late 20th Century, the local café scene was dominated by international franchise brands, namely, Starbucks, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (CBTL), Gloria Jeans, etc. That was a time where our local coffee drinkers learned to appreciate the western world coffee, brewed mainly by arabica coffee bean, like Americano, Espresso, Latte, cappuccino, etc., which is different from the “robusta based” kopi-o which we have grown up with.

Students returning from their overseas studies are also more exposed to the arabica coffee and learned to appreciate this coffee. In the early 2010s, only a handful of locally owned cafes offered this arabica based coffee, let alone locally roasted. But over the following years, these cafes have mushroomed in our local scene and they are easily spotted in malls, major street corners, and had revolutionized the coffee culture in Malaysia. Coffee brewing has become an art, Baristas have become a sought-after profession, and premium arabica coffee from a distant world has become an appreciative drink. We at Soo Hup Seng has witnessed the transition and is pleased to have played a role in contributing to this revolutionary trend.

Since the early 2010s, we noticed a growing demand for premium quality arabica coffee beans. Thanks to the long and lasting business relationship we have with one of the most reputable coffee bean traders in Singapore, Young-in Traders Pte Ltd. (Young-in), we have been able to source the most exclusive beans from around the world. Under the leadership of Mr. Henry Yeo, Young-in has established a significant presence and exposure in the international coffee market. Under the support and guidance of Young-in, Soo Hup Seng has grown to become one of the major arabica coffee bean suppliers in Malaysia.

FAQ

What are the characteristics of Arabica beans?

When it comes to your daily cup, though, only two varieties matter: arabica and robusta. Despite having less caffeine than Robusta, Arabica beans usually have a sweeter, gentler flavour with notes of sweetness, fruit, and berries. Arabica beans from the South American region usually have greater acidity; while arabica beans from the African region usually have more flavor like fruity, winey and citrusy.

Where do Arabica beans grow?

Arabica coffee thrives in tropical settings around the equator. South America and Africa produce some of the greatest coffee. Costa Rica, Mexico, Guatemala, Ecuador, Colombia, Ethiopia, Burundi, Brazil, Rwanda, and India are among the nations that produce high-quality Arabica beans. Generally, arabica beans are better in quality at higher altitude, some even grow in areas higher than 2000 meters above sea level.

How long do unroasted coffee beans last?

When stored in a cold, dry environment, the flavour of unroasted coffee is quite consistent. Unroasted coffee beans will not have a drop-in cup quality for at least 6 months, and maybe up to a year, from the date of delivery. In comparison to roasted coffee, the flavour begins to disappear 7-14 days after roasting.

How should I store my unroasted coffee beans?

All unroasted coffee beans should be stored at room temperature, cool and dry, and out of direct sunlight. For unroasted coffee beans, the refrigerator is too moist, while the freezer is too dry. In the trade, the basic guideline for unroasted coffee bean storage conditions is this: if it's pleasant for you, your coffee will be pleased as well. You can use the plastic bags or jute bags we ship in, or you can transfer unroasted coffee to glass or another material with a decent barrier.
